don't read this is you love chicago

ok, before i go off on a hideous rant about how much i hate this city and want to move, let me tell you about a great event in lincoln square this weekend (that daley has nothing to do with). the Christkindl market is fun and awesome and there's lots to do and see and buy and eat. it's like german fest in winter, except remember how sweaty you got after getting really drunk at german fest? not a problem in december! they'll have heated tents and glogg for those who are wary of the subzero windchill predicted for this weekend. seriously, check it out. it's run by good people and it's for a good cause. check out the website for more info: http://lincolnsquarechristkindl.com/

That said, I hate chicago and i want to move. and here are the reasons why:

1. i hate cold weather. i don't mean like 20s and 30s cold, i mean -12 degrees cold. i am really tired of having windburn on my cheeks from november through march (and sunburn from april to october). i love snow and chilly air and fluffy hats and ice skating. but subzero windchills? no. not that the city can fix this problem, i'm just freezing and bitching... wah wah wah

2. it will now cost a dollar an hour to park on the street. my first job paid less than that. what the fuck? the city is bankrupt so let's raise the cost of EVERYTHING?!? so we can plant trees and shrubs in the middle of the street and tulips downtown? seriously? there's a direct correlation between how much greenery we have and how much debt we're in. i don't get it. it's like saying "well, we have no shoes, so lets buy some fucking amazing socks"

3. they raised CTA prices AGAIN. and here we are, paying more and getting less. awesome. they took away most of the heat lamps and shelters and actually removed the plexi-glass roof over the platform. so now, if you're a commuter and it's raining, you're going to get wet. really wet. what i don't understand is how they seriously could think that what works in june would work the other eleven months of the year. THIS IS A LAWSUIT WAITING TO HAPPEN. when it snows hard, the platforms seriously become solid ice. the first big snowfall of the year i was standing on the belmont platform watching people slip and fall. it was unbelievably negligent. they cram everyone onto one platform because of the construction, remove the heat lamps and shelter, cover the platforms in ice and leave people to their own devices. it felt like a social experiment. i fell on my ass twice that day (granted i was wearing heels) but the platforms were so crowded and so icy, it was genuinely dangerous. someone has to do something about this because it will only get worse. did they actually talk to any real commuters before they fucked up all the platforms with these "improvements" ?!?!

4. this city now has the highest sales tax in the country. and, actually, all the small businesses in chicago are the ones feeling the burn of this the worst. most people who have money to spend are heading out to malls in the suburbs. ask any store owner in lincoln square. they had the worst black friday in a solid decade this year. it seems counterintuitive to try to RAISE money for the city by forcing people to SPEND their money elsewhere. you can buy online and get it tax free and delievered to your door. shouldn't the city be creating more incentives to spend your money HERE?

if i didn't think my family would put a hit on me, i would totally be living in arizona right now. me and arliss had it all planned out last year... if only i hated my family more and loved lincoln square less. i'm such a choad...
Peggysue Always up for a challenge, I think I'm an optimist and having moved away from here once and failed, I am in a serious relationship with Chicago. That being said, I want to break up all the time and I couldn't agree more. May I add, too, the hassles that will be us getting the 2016 Olympics?
Elizabeth shouldn't you say "if only i loved my family less and hated lincoln square more"
you're such a choad
Wellington Don't get my bitchy ass started on our bid for the 2016 olympics.
Jan Let's start an Olympics Rant. Who wants more tourists? And Elizabeth has a point...
Jan Also, you are a child of sub-zero weather. Remember you were born in it. It will follow you.
Elizabeth having recently divorced and reconciled with this city... i understand your urge to break ties. personally, I am starting a fund that will allow me to quit my job and live somewhere extremely pleasant during 2016.
Arliss just so you know, we're still moving to az. pack your shit chickie, it's happening!
Shirley I will only allow you two to move to AZ once I am able to tag along!
Sara You watch your mouth. Don't you talk bad about my Chicago!
